We went to Munster for Easter this year. I was coming straight from work on a weekend of a lot of work and not a lot of sleep, so it was a little rough. Luckily, holidays with my parents are low-key.
What was also helpful was how Isla chose her own hair accessories. So considerate of her.
(Notice the ADORABLE dress that someone made for her. Not to toot my own horn or anything. Ha.)
We hunted Easter eggs.
Stopped for some family photos…
Isla helped Bumpy water flowers. For a really long time.
Any then this happened, which was about the cutest thing ever.
A couple of weeks ago, on one of those glorious days we were fortunate enough to have in Chicago where it was 80 degrees and sunny as can be in the middle of March, we took Isla to Brookfield Zoo. Isla’s Aunts Lisa and Ali (can they both be aunts if they are mother and daughter?) met us there and basically relieved Nate and me of all parenting duties.
Isla LOVES Ali and Lisa. When they are around, Nate and I no longer matter.
Evidence. Before Ali and Lisa arrived, I took Isla on the carousel.
Yay! We’ll ride on the zebra! What fun, right?
No. The ride basically went like this…
Can you see the pain? Tears! Zebra tears!
It was a long 5 minutes of dramatic crying while everyone else smiled happily and had the time of their lives.
However, moments later when we exited the ride of horror, we were greeted by our dear friends and Isla was all smiles. She completely forgot about the awfulness she had just endured at the hands of her evil mother. She forgot her mother, too.
See? She is glaring at me, safe in Ali’s arms.
…
But really, it was a great day.
We saw a lot of animals. Isla ran around with her BFFs…
We posed for some awesome photos.
They even had a playground in middle of the zoo! How awesome is that?
They had polar bears to ride on, too.
The best part was probably when this happened…
“I’m all wet!”
Nate handled his day surrounded by women well.
We all got memberships and will be going back many, many times this summer.
